The Difference Between Active and Passive Recovery Systems

When you are in the business of making your product fast to generate more money, understanding the best equipment for your needs can make or break your success. As a business run by a family of farmers, providing our customers with the best equipment and guidance is

something we strive for. Helping you make the best choices for your business is our main mission and when it comes to providing you with the information you need to find high-quality equipment and get the job done, we are here to help!

When looking at the key points between passive closed-loop and active closed-loop solvent recovery, there are some main differences to help you make a decision on which one you would prefer. To give a quick background for those who are just learning, closed-loop extraction systems are where the output affects the input, or vice versa, to be able to fine-tune system behavior. Whereas open-loop is a system when the output does not affect the input. People utilize automated feedback from the closed-loop systems and find them very helpful with extracting resources, specifically for cannabis.

Closed-loop systems also allow the process of reusing chemical solvents which allows you to waste less as a business. They also reduce the risk of an explosion because of how well-sealed closed-loop systems are manufactured.

When it comes to passive and active closed-loop systems, understanding the differences between the two can help determine how many solvents you will retain. With a passive closed-loop system, the process is much slower and in many ways less efficient. Passive closed-loop systems use a process of heating and cooling to control pressure and in turn recover more hydrocarbon or ethanol solvent. Often times dry-ice and cooling systems are used to regulate temperature.

On one hand, passive closed-loop systems are easier to use and a simpler process than active closed-loop systems. They also require less maintenance which saves you time and money as a business. If you are just developing your company, passive closed-loop systems are also great for beginners and are more accessible.
The downside is that you could lose the quality of your product. What you exchange for saving time maintaining the passive closed-loop system is having to wait longer for results. The loss of time to create results starts to add up and you’re left with a system that takes up a great amount of time and produces significantly less.
Active closed-loop systems, unlike their passive friend, require much less time. The main difference between the two is that active closed-loop systems have recovery pumps to promote rapid and profitable solvent recovery by recovery more solvent than passive closed-loop systems. You will also decrease your cooling cost if you switch to an active closed-loop system.

While there is bigger profit and less time with active closed-loop systems, they are more expensive to start-up and are more complicated to cultivate. They also require more maintenance and often time consistent repairs to keep things in order, specifically with recovery pumps which are arguably the most important functions of the active closed-loop system. It is also important to consider the amount of electricity that active closed-loop systems use and have that can create a possible hazard that you wouldn’t encounter using a passive closed-loop system.
When looking over these points, you may still be on the fence about which closed-loop system is best for you and your business. Overall, active closed-loop systems are better and will help you create more profit in the long run whereas a passive closed-loop system may be easier to use at the beginning of your business’ development, there is a time when switching over to an active closed-loop system will help you more with growing your business. You can also consider looking into passive closed-loop systems that you can later upgrade to an active closed-loop system if you aren’t in the place yet where you could afford the amount of maintenance and time that an active closed-loop system requires. Another point to be made is that over time, many manufacturers of closed-loop systems have created passive closed-loop systems that are more efficient than the ones of the past and create better results.
At the end of the day, neither choice is exactly better but it is important to understand the differences to be able to find the right closed-loop systems to fit your needs. Here at Kind Garden Supply, we like to give you the right resources to understand and make the best choice for your specific needs.
